The Diplomate of Rural Surgery is a pilot project of the National Board. Five hospitals have been selected to start this programme. Lady Willingdon Hospital is one of them. The first candidate for the programme started his course in January 2007. The candidate will spend time between a nodal hospital and Manali. The nodal hospital will be Padhar hospital in Madhya Pradesh. Our first candidate is into his second year. Vacancy exists for 2010 and 2011 for the pre residency program. Applications are now invited for a pre-residency one year programme as a step up to selection for the Rural Surgery course in 2010-2011. The next intakes will be in January 2011 for the program, for which the candidate will have to join as a pre resident first. Minimum criteria for this programme is an M.B.B.S degree. It is NOT necessary to pass the first part of the DNB exam to enroll. Each candidate however will have to spend one year prior to enrollment in a rural area preferably in the institution he or she seeks to enroll in.
