Research

Learn about our Research

2000

Surgical site infections represent the most common health care infection with western rates of upto 4% . In India this rises to a reported rate of 5.6% but quality of the data is not representative. North Eastern states report as high as 999 infections per 100,000 surgeries. The machinations to prevent this have been multipronged, with the WHO advocating 29 strategies to tackle this problem, most of which are very expensive to implement in the rural setting

2021

We helped design a RCT testing triclosan coated sutures (one of the 29 recommendations) with normal sutures and chlorhexidine versus betadine (cheaper) as part of the Global Surgery Collaborative. The results are reported as the Falcon Study in Lancet in 2021.

2022

The next study examined the preventative action of something as simple as changing gloves and gowns prior to abdominal wall closure which demonstrated a decrease in infections. This was reported as the Cheetah study in Lancet in 2022.

We need your help to ensure essential healthcare remains available in Manali.
